That’s a great answer but Howard was probably the smallest kid in the class. His teacher encouraged him and offered some advice as to how to proceed. Part of that advice was to transfer to a school that had a football team.He did. He volunteered to help integrate an all white high school across town along with 9 other students. Howard was an outstanding high school football player and continued the same in college. First at a Division 3 college and then at a division 1 university at Louisville. Howard got drafted into the NFL in the 16th round. The next to the last round by the New Orleans Saints. He was later traded to the Baltimore Colts where he finished his career. After football Howard went into financial service as a regional manager for a subsidiary of the Travelers insurance company. Howard is married to Joyce for 51 years. They have 3 children and 7 grand children. Howard and Joyce currently live in Wake Forest NC.
